JetBlue Flight Revisited

One of the coolest websites that I've ever stumbled upon is flightaware.com. On flightaware.com you can track all of the flights in the air over the US at once, plus you can track the path of previous flights up to 4 months. The above picture is the path of our infamous JetBlue flight that Emilee and I took over Christmas. The plane was supposed to arrive in Oakland, but as you well know, it never made it. Honestly I thought that we had made it further along because the tracker that was on the plane showed us having made it to shore over Louisiana. Even though it doesn't look like we went very far we were in the air for 2 1/2 hours. If you click on the link http://flightaware.com/live/flight/JBU271/history/20071222/0229Z/KFLL/KOAK you can see other flight info

Kitty Door

Well we broke down and finally got a cat door for Smingers (the orange cat) and Smokey Bones (the gray kitty). Thanks to Carolyn and John for giving us advice on how to design it. As soon as I installed it Smokey Bones jumped up and exited, then re-entered, then exited again several times as if to say "I can't believe that I can come and go now as I please!" Smingers was too fat to jump up to the window, so I lifted him up there so he could check it out too. We placed a chair underneath the window so that he could get up there when we're not home. The unfortunate thing is that Smingers has gotten in a fight with a stray cat twice and has been bitten each time (on our front porch I might add). Since both fights occurred at night, he is afraid to go out after dark so he only goes out during the day. Lately he has been catching geckos and other small lizards and bringing them in to the apartment to play with along with Smokey Bones. I've found about five or six dead little critters in the house.

Valentines Day

Here are some pictures from Valentines Day. Emilee made a delicious cake and I grilled the steaks (they were a little more charred than I would have liked). It was nice to take a night off from studying and spend it with Emilee.

Valentine's Day...Remember?

Hi Steve, do you have anything to say to me on this very special day? (This is where you confess your love for me to the world on this great public sign-board, the world wide web.)

So it's also my dad's birthday today. What a great guy! Good ol' Dad, he would always give my mom a heart-shaped box of chocolates left on her dresser for when she would get up. I think he also wrote a love note, but my mom didn't let us read that, nor did she share the chocolates! Now that I'm older, I say good for her, because I wouldn't share them either!

I always thought it was funny that my mom got something on my Dad's birthday...poor dad, I bet he wouldn't mind a few delicious chocolates too! I can't remember if we really got him anything...probably garden gloves or work boots. That sounds pretty sad, but then again, my dad likes to garden and I think he's fairly pleased with some new, sturdy gloves or shoes.

So I won't put it off anymore...I bet Steve thought I wouldn't say it, but:

I LOVE YOU STEVE! Happy Valentine's Day!
I wish I had a candy heart to give you that said.....

"Page Me"! How romantic!

Smingers, IHOP, and Preston update

So I love Chex Mix (Homemade Chex Mix, not storebought) I love eating it so much that when my Mom sent it to me on my mission in Colombia, I ate it all for breakfast. One time my Mom made it and left it on the kitchen counter to cool. I noticed that every time I would grab a small handful of chex and eat it as I passed. Well, Smingers does basically the same thing. He follows us around the apartment all night (when he's not sleeping) and every time we go to the kitchen he stops and eats a few bites of food. Ummm...don't mind if I do...

IHOP and Preston: Mom asked if we had been to IHOP yet and the answer is--not yet. We're going to go later tonight. Also, the reason we have a Preston, ID Webcam is because we both lived in Rexburg for a couple of years and now Miami for a couple of years. I love to see the contrasting climates and am glad that we live where it's warm

OTM 4 = Boooring!

Sorry Steve, somebody had to say it!

Let's talk about our two fur-children, Smingers and Smokey Bones. Actually, Smokey Bones doesn't go by "Smokey Bones" anymore--we have (un)affectionately labeled her "Pooh" because she is so grouchy and ANNOYING ALL the time.
So these two kitties, Pooh and Sming are the most opposite kitties EVER. Sming is a very nice, Garfield Lard that loves to (in order) 1. Eat 2. Sleep 3. Eat 4. Run around outside 5. "don't mind if I do!" Eat

Pooh is a silver-gray kitty who is slightly fat (but wears her weight well). Pooh hates to (in order) 1. Be loved 2. Be picked up 3. Be loved 4. Be touched 5. Be nice 6. Do ANYTHING she didn't think of FIRST!

That being explained, I will be sharing many anecdotes on these two kitties and thought I would begin with this one.

Smingers wanted to go outside really bad this morning, but unfortunately, though he has a cat door out of our window 3 ft off the ground, cannot jump up to it due to his considerable girth. He finally annoyed Steve enough by crying, pouting, then pointing his nose to the window until Steve let him out. What a baby. I will be picking up some French Cries and Whaamburgers for him on said Hamburglar's Birthday.

It only comes one time a year...

Today fat guys like Homer Simpson, Ruben Studdard, Meatloaf, as well as others are celebrating National Pancake Day by going to IHOP to get free pancakes. http://www.ihoppancakeday.com/

No word yet if McDonalds will be holding the same promotion on the Hamburglar's birthday

OTM-4 Class

Dr. Cranadall is the instructor for our OTM-4 class. It's one of those classes that is fairly straight-forward and so I can type and listen at the same time without missing anything important. She likes to go lecture very slowly so I read ahead in the notes while she lectures. Today's lecture is on Cycloplegic refraction...nothing too stimulating.

My very first blog posting

So I've wanted to start a blog for some time now and have finally gotten around to doing it. I just finished two tests (Ophthalmic Optics and Epidemeology) and had some time to spare time so I went ahead and did it. I just called Emilee at work and she's onboard with it. She has better writing skills than I do so I look forward to her posts.
It will take some time to get this thing up and running and interesting (at least somewhat intersting) so bear with us.
